Founders

Chui Mamas was founded by Letoluei Ambrose and Modester Ellie who started the program in order to empower the women and girls in the community. Most of the women in the community are single mothers, widows, the less fortunate and those who have kids with disabilities. The organization currently has approximately sixty participants. They are gathered to partake in activities such as beadwork, making natural liquid soap and discuss issues regarding the hardships women are subjected to. The organization revolves around the pillars of health and hygiene, local craft manufacturing, sewing lessons to develop an industry, photography to tell the stories as well as the teaching of economic empowerment. In order to assist the participants in the program to run their own business to earn revenue from the products they produce.
